Melasma, freckles and the brown marks left after breakouts are pigment problems, and laser toning in Korea treats them with many low-energy laser passes spread over a course of visits. At Pixelab Beauty Clinic toning runs on the MIIN laser, either as dual toning or as triple toning with an added UniFace step, priced per session or as a 10-session package.

Who laser toning suits, and who should hold off
Pigmentation means extra melanin, the brown pigment skin makes to shield itself from light. Melasma is a patchy, symmetrical brown tone on the cheeks, forehead or upper lip that is driven by sunlight and hormones and tends to return. Freckles and sun spots are smaller, sharper dots built up by years of sun. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the flat brown mark that stays after a pimple or a scratch has healed.
Toning keeps the energy low so that pigment is broken up gradually without wounding the surface. That matters for melasma, which can flare when skin is overheated, and it is why the plan is a long series of short visits. A sharply outlined sun spot may respond to a targeted spot treatment instead, a choice made when the skin is examined.
Laser light on tanned, sunburned or irritated skin raises the chance of fresh darkening. A tan, a peel reaction or an eczema flare is a reason to postpone, and toning can start once the skin has calmed.
Usually a good fit
- Melasma, as part of a longer plan with daily sun protection
- An uneven, dull brown tone across the cheeks
- Brown marks left after acne or skin irritation
- Freckles and scattered light sun spots
- Living in Seoul or able to return every 3 weeks
We may suggest waiting
- A fresh tan or sunburn on the face

How it works
How the MIIN laser is used for toning
MIIN is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser made by LTRA Global. A Q-switched laser releases its energy in extremely short pulses, measured in billionths of a second. Melanin absorbs that light and the pigment granules break apart, and the body clears the fragments over the following weeks. Toning uses a low setting and a wide beam moved evenly across the face in several passes, so each visit lightens pigment by a small step.
The price list offers toning in two forms. Dual toning is the base session. Triple toning adds UniFace, one of the Opus options from Alma Lasers, to the dual toning session in the same visit. An exosome add-on can be booked alongside a laser session as an optional extra.
Research on low-energy Nd:YAG toning for melasma points in two directions. A meta-analysis of 50 studies found it worked better combined with other treatments than on its own, that the effect faded over time, and that more sessions came with more cases of pale, mottled spots (Cervantes, 2022). A long-term follow-up recorded a high relapse rate after melasma toning (Gokalp, 2016), and a randomized trial found that adding intense pulsed light sped up improvement while relapse still followed (Vachiramon, 2014). For sun spots, a systematic review covering 1,763 patients ranked laser and combination approaches as the most effective options (Mukovozov, 2023). These studies used Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers in general and did not test MIIN by name.
Energy is adjusted from one visit to the next according to how the skin reacted. Redness that outlasts a few days, or new dark patches, are signals that the settings or the pace of the course need to change.

Prices
Laser Toning Cost in South Korea
Toning is priced per visit, or as a package of 10 sessions with 2 more sessions added at no charge. Since the recommended course is at least 10 sessions, setting the package total against ten single visits gives the clearer picture of what a full course costs.
The dual toning package includes post-treatment care at each visit. The exosome add-on is charged per session on top of the laser and cannot be booked as a stand-alone treatment.
Every amount on the cards excludes VAT. The 10% VAT is charged at payment, and the VAT-inclusive figure under each card is the one to budget for if you plan a package over several months in Seoul.

Safety
Side effects of laser toning and where it falls short
Low energy lowers the risk of injury without removing it. Side effects reported with Q-switched Nd:YAG toning include:
- Redness, dryness or a stinging feel for hours to a few days.
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, new darkening that is more likely when treated skin meets strong sun.
- Mottled hypopigmentation, small pale spots that research links with higher session numbers.
- Acne-like bumps or a flare of existing sensitivity.
- Rebound of melasma during or after a course.
- Little visible change in deeper pigment, which responds slowly to light.
Melasma relapse is the main limit. Laser toning lightens pigment, yet it does not switch off the hormonal and sun-driven process that produces it, so sunscreen and shade stay part of the plan between visits and after the course ends. Message the clinic if darkening, blistering or lasting irritation appears after a session.

FAQ
Before you book laser toning: common questions
Can laser toning get rid of melasma?
No treatment can promise that. Laser toning can lighten melasma over a course of sessions, yet studies of low-energy Nd:YAG toning report that the pigment tends to come back, especially with sun exposure. Daily sunscreen and regular review between sessions help the lighter tone hold for longer.
What is the difference between dual and triple toning?
Triple toning is dual toning with one extra step: UniFace, an Opus option on the clinic's price list, is added in the same visit. Both follow the same course of at least 10 sessions, 3 weeks apart, and each has its own single-session and 10-session package price.
How many laser toning sessions will I need?
The clinic recommends at least 10 sessions, spaced 3 weeks apart, which adds up to roughly half a year. Deep or long-standing pigment may need more, and the plan is reviewed as the skin responds. Each 10-session package comes with 2 additional sessions at no extra charge.
Is there downtime after laser toning?
Very little. Temporary redness and dryness can last from a few hours to a few days. How visible it is depends on the energy used, how sensitive your skin is and whether it was irritated beforehand, so keep the evening after your first session free to see how your skin reacts.
Can I get laser toning during a short trip to Seoul?
Yes. One session fits easily into a trip, and flying home the same day is possible. A single visit brings only a small change, though, since the course is at least 10 sessions 3 weeks apart. If you cannot come back, ask whether a few sessions are still worthwhile for your pigment.
Does laser toning hurt?
Numbing cream is applied before the laser. During the passes you may feel light snapping or warmth on the skin, because the laser delivers very short pulses of energy. Tell the clinic if numbing creams have irritated your skin before, so the preparation can be adjusted for you.
What kind of doctor leads Pixelab Beauty Clinic?
The clinic is led by Dr. Jongkeun Song, a Korean board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Song graduated from Konyang University College of Medicine and completed plastic surgery residency at The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital. Skin and wound healing are part of that training, which bears on how laser energy is set for pigment-prone skin.
Are laser toning prices shown before VAT?
Yes. Each price is listed before the 10% VAT, which is added when you pay. A single dual toning session is ₩130,000 before tax and ₩143,000 with it. Your written quote shows whether you are paying per visit or for a package.
Is there English support for toning consultations?
Yes. An English interpreter is on staff at the clinic, and before your first visit you can send photos of your pigment and your questions on WhatsApp in English. We reply as soon as possible.
Do I pay a deposit to book a toning package?
Deposit and cancellation terms are not listed on this page. Before paying for a single visit or a package, ask the clinic to send the terms in writing, including what happens to unused package sessions if your plans change.
What is the exosome add-on?
It is an optional step booked together with a laser session and charged per visit. Exosome products are used in skin care with the aim of supporting the skin barrier, but published research on them is still limited, so it is offered as an extra on top of the toning itself.
Is laser toning suitable for Asian or darker skin?
Yes, with care. Skin that tans easily is more prone to post-inflammatory darkening and, after many sessions, small pale spots, so energy is kept conservative and sessions are spaced 3 weeks apart. Sun protection between visits lowers the chance of new pigment forming.
