Enlarged male breast tissue in the chest comes from a firm glandular disc behind the nipple, extra fat, or a mix of both. At Pixelab Beauty Clinic, gynecomastia surgery in Korea removes that tissue under IV sedation; pain, bruising and swelling last for weeks with a compression garment, and the single surgery fee is shown below before VAT.

Is it for you?

Who considers male breast reduction

Gynecomastia (male breast enlargement) has three tissue patterns. In the glandular type, a rubbery disc of breast tissue sits under the nipple and areola. In the fatty type, sometimes called pseudogynecomastia, the fullness is fat alone. The mixed type has both. Surgeons have proposed several grading systems for size, sagging, tissue type and excess skin, yet a 2017 review found that none of them covers every point a surgical plan needs (Waltho, 2017), so the examination of your own chest carries more weight than a label.

The cause matters before any operation. Puberty, hormone shifts, some prescription drugs, anabolic steroids and weight change can all enlarge male breast tissue. Pubertal gynecomastia can settle or be managed with medication (Fagerlund, 2015), and a new lump on one side needs a medical check before anyone talks about surgery.

The items listed under waiting are reasons to hold off for now. Most come down to timing: if the cause is still active, tissue can return after it is removed.

Usually a good fit

  • Firm tissue behind one or both nipples
  • Chest fullness that stays despite diet and training
  • Puffy or projecting nipples visible in fitted shirts
  • Adult, with a chest size that has been stable
  • Medical causes already looked into

We may suggest waiting

  • Still in puberty, with recent onset
  • A new, hard, one-sided lump not yet examined
  • Taking a drug or steroid that may be the cause
  • Large weight loss still planned
  • Blood thinners or a bleeding disorder (tell the clinic)
  • Unable to wear a compression garment as advised

How it works

How gynecomastia surgery removes chest tissue

The operation works on two kinds of tissue with two different tools. Soft fat across the chest and toward the armpit can be suctioned out through small openings with a cannula, the method used in liposuction. Glandular tissue is dense and fibrous, and a cannula tends to slide over it, so a firm disc under the nipple is cut out through a short incision, in published approaches placed at the edge of the areola.

A systematic review of gynecomastia treatment found that removing the gland and adding liposuction gave the most consistent results with low complication rates (Fagerlund, 2015). A later review of liposuction-assisted surgery through a minimal incision at the areola reported steady gains in quality of life, while noting that the studies behind it were of low quality (Prasetyono, 2021). Across 53 studies of surgical approaches, results were mostly good, and the authors suggested minimally invasive techniques as one way to keep complications down (Prasetyono, 2022).

How much fat and how much gland your chest holds decides the mix used. Dr. Jongkeun Song, a Korean board-certified plastic surgeon, examines the chest by touch and performs the surgery.

1

Chest examination

At consultation

Gland and fat are told apart by touch, and possible medical causes are reviewed.

2

Marking

The areas to treat are drawn on the chest while you stand.

3

IV sedation

Medicine through a vein puts you to sleep for the operation.

4

Fat and gland removal

Typically about 1.5–3 hours

Fat is suctioned through small openings and firm gland is removed where present.

5

Compression garment

A compression garment is fitted to hold the chest as swelling settles.

6

Follow-up checks

Regular checks after surgery track wound healing and swelling.

Prices

Gynecomastia Surgery Cost in South Korea

The clinic's price list gives gynecomastia surgery as one fee for the operation. The figures on the cards leave out VAT; Korea's 10% VAT is added when you pay, and the second line on each card shows that total.

Anesthesia lines are printed separately on the price list. IV sedation is the method the clinic lists for this surgery, and local anesthesia appears as its own add-on. What the surgery fee covers, such as the compression garment and follow-up checks, is not spelled out on the price list, so ask for each item to be named in your written quote before you book.

Safety

Gynecomastia surgery risks

Chest surgery in men carries the risks of any operation that removes tissue under the skin:

  • Hematoma, a collection of blood under the skin that may need draining.
  • Seroma, a pocket of fluid that can form as the area heals.
  • Contour irregularity or a difference between the two sides.
  • A dip or a crater-like look under the nipple if too much tissue is removed, or leftover fullness if too little is.
  • Numbness or changed feeling in the nipple and the chest skin, which may last for months.
  • Visible scars where incisions were made, and loose skin in large or sagging chests.
  • Infection, delayed wound healing, and side effects of IV sedation.

Repeat surgery is uncommon in pooled series, at about 1% overall; leftover tissue (under-correction) is the main reason, and over the long term the fatty type returns more than the glandular type. The clinic notes that results last long term while the chance of recurrence differs from person to person.

Message the clinic straight away if one side swells quickly or turns tense and painful, you develop a fever, or a wound starts to leak.

FAQ

Gynecomastia surgery questions

How long is recovery after gynecomastia surgery?

Pain, bruising and swelling last for weeks, and the clinic's treatment sheet pairs that period with a compression garment. How quickly you move through it depends on how much tissue was removed and how closely you follow the garment and activity advice. Regular follow-up checks are part of recovery.

When can I go back to the gym after gynecomastia surgery?

Strenuous exercise, stretching and heavy lifting are typically avoided for at least about 3 weeks. Chest training typically comes back around 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. These ranges come from published guidance, and your follow-up checks show whether your own chest is ready.

When can I fly home after gynecomastia surgery?

Typically no sooner than 5 to 7 days, and about 1 to 2 weeks before a long-haul flight, after at least one post-op check of the wounds. These are general figures from published guidance. On board, choose an aisle seat, drink water, walk regularly and consider compression stockings.

Is gynaecomastia surgery, the UK spelling, available here?

Yes. Gynaecomastia is the UK and Australian spelling of the same condition, and the operation appears on the clinic's price list as a single surgery fee. The rest of this page uses the US spelling, gynecomastia, for the same procedure.

Can gynecomastia be treated with liposuction alone?

Only when the fullness is fat. Liposuction removes soft fat well, yet a firm glandular disc behind the nipple is dense and is typically cut out through a small incision. A review of treatment options found gland removal combined with liposuction gave the most consistent results.

Can gynecomastia come back after surgery?

It can, and the chance differs from person to person, according to the clinic. Pooled studies put repeat surgery at about 1%, mostly for leftover tissue. Weight gain, anabolic steroids and some medicines can enlarge remaining tissue, so the original cause matters after surgery too.

Who performs gynecomastia surgery at the clinic?

Dr. Jongkeun Song is a Korean board-certified plastic surgeon and performs the operation. Body contouring and tissue removal under the skin belong to plastic surgery training, which Dr. Song completed at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, The Catholic University of Korea.

Is the gynecomastia surgery fee before or after VAT?

Before VAT. The surgery is listed at ₩4,000,000, and with the 10% VAT added at payment it comes to ₩4,400,000. Sedation is a separate line, so ask for every item to be named in your written quote.

Does gynecomastia surgery leave scars?

Yes, any incision leaves a scar. In published approaches the cuts are kept small and placed at the edge of the areola or where they are less noticeable, and liposuction openings are a few millimeters. How a scar fades depends on your skin and on wound care while it heals.

Can I consult in English about gynecomastia surgery?

Yes. An English interpreter is on staff, and you can message us on WhatsApp in English with chest photos and your questions before you plan the trip. Replies come as soon as possible, and the consultation itself can be held in English.

Do I need a deposit, and what if I have to cancel?

This page does not publish deposit or cancellation terms for surgery. Get them in writing alongside your quote before paying anything, and ask what happens to the money if your surgery date or flights change.

Do I have to wear a compression vest?

Yes. The clinic's treatment sheet lists a compression garment as part of gynecomastia recovery. It presses the chest skin against the tissue underneath while swelling and bruising ease over the following weeks. Ask how long to wear it and whether it is included in your quote.
