Who laser hair removal in Seoul suits
Laser hair removal works by aiming light at melanin, the pigment in the hair shaft and root. The pigment absorbs the light and turns it into heat, and that heat damages the follicle so it produces finer, sparser hair or none at all. The method relies on contrast. Dark hair on lighter skin gives the laser a clear target, while hair with little pigment gives it almost nothing to work on.
Skin color matters too, because the skin also contains melanin. Darker skin can still be treated, using wavelengths and settings that pass the skin and reach the follicle. In a randomized trial on dark skin, both long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser and intense pulsed light were safe, and Nd:YAG reduced hair more (Ismail, 2012).
The conditions in the second list either leave the laser without a target or raise the risk of burns and pigment change. A tan or a recent course of medicine can be waited out, and the area treated later.

How it works
How laser hair removal works on each body area
Every hair follicle cycles through growth, transition and rest. The laser has its strongest effect on hairs in the growth phase, when the hair is still attached to the pigmented root. At any moment only part of the hair in an area is in that phase, so one session reaches only part of the follicles and a series is needed. How many sessions an area needs has not been published by the clinic and depends on hair color, thickness and the area.
Body area changes the outcome. A 2022 systematic review of lasers and light sources found that long-term hair reduction was lowest on the face and highest in the underarms, which it linked to how hair grows in each region (Krasniqi, 2022). Facial hair, and hormone-driven hair on the chin and upper lip in particular, can need more sessions and maintenance.
Several laser and light types are used for hair removal, including diode, alexandrite, Nd:YAG and intense pulsed light. A randomized left-right trial found a diode laser more effective than intense pulsed light, though also more painful (Klein, 2013), and a 2023 network meta-analysis found laser and light methods safe and effective while calling for longer follow-up before ranking them (Kao, 2023). The Cochrane review on this subject reported short-term reduction and few adverse effects, yet found too little high-quality long-term evidence (Haedersdal, 2006). Ask which laser the clinic uses for your areas when you request a quote.
Each area is priced separately for women and men on the clinic's list, so you can combine only the areas you want in one visit.

After a laser hair removal session
Redness and small bumps around follicles can appear; flying home is possible
Avoid sun, saunas and scrubbing; message the clinic if blisters or crusts appear
Treated hairs loosen and fall out; shave if needed, but do not wax or pluck
Book the next visit once regrowth shows, with the skin back to its usual tone
Safety
What can go wrong with laser hair removal
Hair removal lasers heat the skin as well as the hair, so the main risks come from that heat. Known risks include:
- Redness, swelling and bumps around the follicles after each session.
- Burns or blisters, more likely on tanned or darker skin and with high energy.
- Darkening or lightening of the skin, which can last for months.
- Folliculitis or acne-like spots in the treated area.
- Paradoxical hair growth, where hair near the treated zone becomes thicker.
- Eye injury on face areas, so eye protection is worn.
- Incomplete reduction: fine, light or hormone-driven hair can keep growing back.
The evidence has limits too. The Cochrane review found short-term reduction clear but long-term data thin (Haedersdal, 2006), and the network meta-analysis asked for longer studies before naming one method as superior (Kao, 2023).
Contact the clinic if a blister forms, the skin crusts or oozes, or a dark or pale patch appears after a session.

FAQ
Laser hair removal in Seoul: what visitors ask
How much is laser hair removal in Seoul?
Prices are set per area and differ for women and men. Women's underarms are ₩55,000 and men's full face is ₩120,000, both before 10% VAT. Calves, thighs, arms and the Brazilian area each have their own line in the price list on this page.
Will the hair grow back after laser hair removal?
Some hair can grow back, and how much depends on the area. A 2022 systematic review found long-term reduction lowest on the face and highest in the underarms. Light, fine and hormone-driven hair responds less, so we cannot promise that every hair in an area stops growing.
How many laser hair removal sessions are needed?
There is no fixed number on the clinic's list. Hair grows in cycles and the laser reaches only follicles in the growth phase, so a series is needed. Hair color, thickness, hormones and the body area all change the count, and your plan is decided at consultation.
Can men get laser hair removal for the beard line?
Yes. Every area has a men's price, and the upper lip plus chin or hairline line covers the beard and hairline. Men's lip, chin or hairline is ₩88,000 before VAT, and men's underarms, arms, legs and Brazilian area are priced separately.
What is the downtime after laser hair removal?
Redness and small raised bumps around the follicles are the expected reaction. The clinic has not published a set number of days for it. Higher energy, darker or tanned skin and sensitive areas such as the face can make the reaction stronger.
Can I fly home on the day of laser hair removal?
Yes. The clinic states that a same-day flight home is possible after laser hair removal. Cabin air is dry and sunlight through windows still reaches the skin, so carry sunscreen and a plain moisturizer and keep treated areas covered on the way home.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Numbing cream is applied before the session. Even so, each pulse feels like a warm snap against the skin, stronger where hair is dense and on thin skin such as the upper lip or Brazilian area. Tell the clinic if a pulse feels too hot during treatment.
Can laser hair removal be done on dark skin?
Yes, with suitable wavelengths and settings. In a randomized trial on dark skin, long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser and intense pulsed light were both safe, and Nd:YAG reduced more hair. Share your skin type and any history of pigment change before treatment, and ask which laser is used.
Are hair removal prices per session and before VAT?
Yes to both. Each price covers one session on that area and excludes the 10% VAT added at payment. Women's full face is ₩99,000, which comes to ₩108,900 including VAT. Your quote lists every area you add.
What kind of doctor runs the clinic?
Dr. Jongkeun Song, a Korean board-certified plastic surgeon, is the Medical Director of Pixelab Beauty Clinic. Dr. Song graduated from Konyang University College of Medicine and completed plastic surgery residency at The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital.
Is English spoken when I book hair removal?
Yes. The clinic has an English interpreter on staff, and you can message us on WhatsApp in English to list the areas you want and the dates you are in Seoul. We will get back to you as soon as possible with prices for those areas.
Do I need a deposit, and can I cancel or move my session?
The deposit and cancellation terms are not printed here. Ask for them in writing before you pay, along with the area-by-area quote, so you know what happens if a tan, a cold sore or a change in flights means the session has to move.
